The actions of the Life SALVAGuARDiA project are aimed at a precise territorial area, the Brescia side of Lake Garda; territory with unique morphological, geographical, demographic and productive characteristics in Italy and in Europe. The territory of Lake Garda presents itself today as afragile area, threatened by human activities booming, including increasing population and tourist pressure. In recent years there has been a increase in infrastructure and some CO2 and GHG emissions.
The tourism sector it is the hub of a thriving industry in the Garda area; Life SALVAGuARDiA has had a dialogue in recent months with the sector represented by Federalberghi Brescia, with a view to developing a shared strategy which, in addition to promoting the tourist activity, focuses on a contemporary one common choice to reduce the environmental impacts generated.
In March, therefore, the R!GENERA pilot project HOTELS which will involve 5 Garda accommodation facilities, activating them in a series of actions reduction of one's own consumption and waste of water, energy, food.
The first five participating Lake Garda facilities were: Park Hotel of Desenzano, Hotel Duomo of Salò, Hotel La Fiorita of lemon, West Garda Hotel of Padenghe Sul Garda and theHotel Alfieri of Sirmione.
The project R!GENERATES HOTELS it was conceived and will be created by a work team made up of CAUTO, Garda Uno SPA and Acque Bresciane, three subjects who will bring their specific skills on environmental issues to hotel structures in the coming months.
R!GENERATES HOTELS it is an innovative path to reduce the environmental impact expressly intended for hospitality businesses. The five participating hotels will work on four different areas: matter, food, water and energy. For each area are provided efficiency interventions For avoid waste of resources, improve the quality of waste sorting internal and lower consumption of water and energy.
The project also provides awareness actions to bring hotel staff closer to the themes of Sustainable Development, through training courses customized and participated. In this way, managers and employees of tourist structures will be accompanied to re-locate their daily work tasks in a broader sense framework. The topics covered in the training sessions will be essentially three: circular economy, integrated sustainability, food waste and environmental impacts generated by the phenomenon.
In the start-up phase of the project in April 2023, one of the first actions will be the compilation by the 5 hotel structures of a sustainability assessments. The compilation will allow you to re-read your internal processes and carry out an initial monitoring aimed at outlining the positioning of the structure and identifying the necessary intervention areas with a view to efficiency.
Following the initial audit, and an accurate process of analysis of bills and consumption, we will then proceed with the implementation of specific interventions for each area.
Particular attention will be given to theefficiency of separate waste collection and the placement of equipment of various kinds capable of reducing the waste of water and power: from the installation of «smart metering» meters to avoid waste of water, up to the installation of photovoltaic panels on the energy side.
As for the “food waste”, in addition to the planned training interventions, the Garda structures will be able to become part of the Network of Widespread Warehouse – LIFE SalvaGuARDiA donating their food surpluses to local organizations and associations that assist families in difficulty, thus preventing precious food from being wasted and becoming waste.
Throughout the development period, which will last from March to October 2023, a plan will be activated monitoring of environmental and social KPIs in order to then return to the territory an outcome of the results obtained, so that R!GENERA can become shared and replicable model within other tourist facilities in the Garda area and beyond.
Finally, the closure of the project, with a view to disseminating and raising awareness, will be aimed at defining the communication aspects to customers and stakeholders of the sustainability commitments undertaken and of the objectives achieved by adopting the new virtuous practices.
